The NetHunter project is a free and open-source mobile penetration testing platform for Android devices, based on Kali Linux, created as a joint effort between the Kali community member “BinkyBear” and Offensive Security. NetHunter supports Wireless 802.11 frame injection, one-click MANA Evil Access Point setups, HID keyboard, as well as BadUSB MITM attacks – and is built upon the sturdy shoulders of the Kali Linux distribution and toolsets.
The developers behind the ROM made it so it would work on Google’s older Nexus smartphones, along with older OnePlus phones and some older Samsung Galaxy phones.
However, some e users have found a way to install Kali NetHunter on most Android devices, one of this is our very own Redmi Note 4x. Keep in mind this method is unofficial so you will be installing this program on your phone at your own risk. I will not be held liable for any damage, loss of data and such by following my tutorial.
What is the Best ROM for NetHunter on Redmi Note 4X?
We all know that Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X is one of the best phones even up to this date. Powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 chip with clock speed of 2.0GHz, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is also expandable via the microSD card slot. If you are willing to pay extra, you can get a 64GB model with 4GB of RAM.
For almost a day of searching for compatible ROM to install NetHunter on this device, I narrowed it down to Three(3) Custom Rom.
[Non-Treble]Omni Rom – Oreo
Direct Link – here | XDA – this far the most stable ROM is have tested and I am currently using it on my device.
[Non-Treble]Nitrogen OS – Oreo
Direct Link – here | XDA – pride to be the fastest Custom ROM. There were some bugs, as reported in the XDA thread, feel free to explore.
[Non-Treble]XenonHD 8.1 Experimental
Direct Link – here | XDA – The idea behind XenonHD is to give users a ROM that is “blazing fast, rock stable, and buttery smooth”. It is based on LineageOS 15.1
Preferred Custom Recovery
After flashing, either RedWolf or TWRP, I highly recommend flashing it again with OrangeFox – in my personal opinion, Redfox was better but this is the best. It was smooth, and a lot of enriched features.
Note that OrangeFox can also be flash directly via fastboot.
How to install Kali NetHunter
Why Android Oreo? I only find one stable Nethunter Kernel that is fully working on Redmi Note 4x. Thanks to Allan200, view the full XDA thread here.
This is my personal compilation of how I successfully installed NetHunter on Redmi Note 4x. Although this device is almost 4 years old, it still has the capacity to go further what it is capable of. This device may not one of the official Android Devices compatible with NetHunter but I assure you that it’s still functioning as the official. Again, this is all a compilation for Redmi Note 4x created for project-anniemei.com and all the credits goes to the original author, creator, maker of the software and programs.
